Historically, a symbol of national unity and non-violent resistance against the Nazi occupation of Norway during WWII. The \"Melt the ICE\" hat initiative has adopted the nisselue as a symbol of protest, with proceeds from knitting patterns supporting immigrant aid organizations. For each hat purchased, 20% of the proceeds are donated to the Immigrant Defense Network or Haven Watch. Design adapted from Minnesota yarn shop Needle & Skein\'s \"Melt the ICE\" pattern on Ravelry.
